I know a barista at a local coffee shop, not Starbucks, but another national chain. She makes $8.25/hour plus tips. This is in Ohio.
Ive worked there (in LA) for 5 months. They start you at $7.65/hr and give you (on average) a $1 raise every 6 months. Plus, you get weekly tips (they vary by store and how many employees you have to split it with) between $2-$4 an hour.
You also get pretty awesome benefits like 1lb free coffee or a box of tea per week, plus (after 6 months) tuition reimbursment, health insurance, discounts on cellphone plans, clothing, gym memberships, etc.
