Though a measuring cup “1 cup” is 8 oz, a coffee cup is measured in 6 oz. Not helpful when you want a “mug” of coffee, which are mostly 11 oz–so a 4 cup coffee maker will make about 2 mugs of coffee.

The 1 tsp coffee per cup is more likely instant coffee, since it takes 2 Tbs of coffee grounds per six ounces (180 millilitres) of water for a good cup of drip coffee–strength is determined by the fineness of grinding, and the method of brewing (drip, perk, espresso, etc)

One level tablespoon of coffee per cup is the standard and works well regardless of your coffee maker. Do not make batches any larger than 10 cups at a time, since the higher you go, the less effective are your efforts to avoid over-extraction.

If your coffee maker shows 11 cups then it measures the cup size different. A coffee cup has 6 ounces – so 1 level tablespoon is for that size. If you have cups with 8 ounces, use 1 1/2 tablespoon per cup.

I don’t drink coffee any more (past 9 years), but I love the smell of it and i have been really thinking about starting up drinking it again, once my husband goes through the next months worth of coffee I have in the cabinets, he likes it strong.

Rule of thumb is to measure water by the reservoir on the coffee pot, then add the coffee scoop or heaping tablespoons of coffee per 2 cup measure. Depending on your heaping spoons will vary on the strength of the coffee.
