No, it depends on the situation and your mood. When i have a friend over who loves coffee but I don’t desire to have a cup with her, then I make her coffee with a cafetiere and she can enjoy two cups while I drink a cup of tea. Less muss and fuss, but I have another friend and we enjoy amarettis together or a little pastry and I set the moka pot, its a nice accompanient. The syphon is for people with time and patience and in certain restaurants in the Netherlands you can find them. It is wonderful to savour a lovely meal over bonbons with a slow percolated cup of coffee(with a liqueur beside) and when discussing espresso machines I love the modern but am a hands on kind of girl and like to feel I’m in control when I make my cup. Its that more pleasurable when I drink it. Hope this helps. I’m shopping now for a new one.

My dad goes through tons of espresso machines. When he has guests over he’s compelled to make them a cappuccino for them. But he doesn’t have any moka pots or syphons?
