Clinton N. Maxwell asked:

Though coffee has its origin in Ethiopia, where still now the main source of coffee production is the wild coffee tree forests, coffee consumption has gradually spread worldwide. The fact that the coffee beans grow profusely in tropical or sub-tropical regions is only because it requires ample sunshine and rain to cultivate the beans.

Majority of the world’s source of the liquid that a Turkish maxim calls ‘black as hell, and strong as death, and sweet as love’ comes from a narrow strip that is centered on the equator of around 23 degrees North to 25 degrees South. Globally, the coffee beans are grown in over 70 countries, only with an output to make it the world’s second largest commodity in dollar volume only after oil.

Till date, Brazil bags the title of the largest producer of coffee bean with a standard output of 28 percent of the total production. With a pretty distant margin, world-renowned Columbia claims the second place at only 16 percent; while Indonesia and Mexico are placed at the third and fourth respectively with 7% and 4%, almost half than the previous.

Though high altitudes are great for the coffee trees to produce the best beans, the trees have adapted to a variety of climatic regions.

Brazil has a huge amount of land as plantations and to look after the plants hundred of laborers are employed. However, in Columbia the rugged mountains including poor economic conditions and inconvenient transportation, facilities to processing centers are carried out by Jeep or mule.

Though Columbia has the tree-lined mountains for coffee production, the Hawaiian producers prefer the slopes of the Mauna Loa volcano for ideal coffee cultivation. The volcanic ash is black and rocky, still plants can grow well where the tropical clouds protect the plants from the intense heat of the afternoon sun and the required water is amply provided by the frequent island showers.

Indonesia may be technologically a little backward, but it surpasses the other countries with its helpful warm, damp microclimates. The combining effort of the largest islands of Java, Sumatra and Sulawesi with hundreds of one or two acres firms on each of them contribute largely to secure the third place position for the country.

Mexico as contrasted to Brazil, has primarily small farms for plantations, however the total number of over 100,000 of them has helped the country to make a mark on the global chart. Almost all of them are located in the south, in Chiapas, Veracruz and Oaxaca but the high altitude is necessary to produce the special Altura beans.

However in recent years, after the recovery of the Tonkin area from decades of stagnation, Vietnam has been rapidly challenging Indonesia’s position. Initially planted along with Arabica trees by French missionaries in the middle of 19th century, the plantations that are small in size now produce robusta, which is one of the two major species.

Be it the Costa Rican La Fuente, the Tanzanian Peaberry, the Brazilian Liberdade or the Indian Monsoon Malabar – expresso machines and coffee are attracting an eclectic increasing demand throughout the world.

Chris Vorelli asked:

A large percentage of the population loves to drink both gourmet coffee and espresso drinks. We are all aware of the fact that coffee and espresso provide a boost of energy and they also warm your body up on those cold winter days. Most, however, are not familiar with the history of the coffee and espresso machines, themselves. Without these machines, we probably wouldn’t see such a large population that can easily and affordably prepare these common drinks.

Where did the coffee maker come from?

Since the days of the early Egyptians, coffee has been a staple beverage for most people. Though the Coffee bean originated in Africa, it quickly spread to neighboring countries, like Arabia and Egypt. The first method of bean preparation was to roast the beans on an open fire and then added to boiling water for consumption.

It is believed that coffee was probably considered a type of wine and used to barter and trade. Fermented in much the same as grapes, coffee was a source of energy and warmth for most, but some drank it because they loved the taste, too.

A man by the name of Mr. Laurens came up with the first coffee-making machine in 1818. The machine was constantly modified by coffee drinkers. The coffee machine was actually a product that had just as many patents by women as men, that was practically unheard of at that time!

Through the years, the coffee machine has become a reliable, dependable and easy to use product. In the 1960′s, the first filter machines were invented and the modifications have improved even more since then. Coffee making machines began as crude looking inventions, but have evolved into many different styles, making it possible for a Governor and a Harley biker to own the same style! Found in just about every home, the coffee machine is made by many manufacturers, including: Braun, Senseo, Kitchenaid, Krups and Pod.

Where did the espresso machine come from?

Discovered by a goat herder and developed by a tired, hungry traveler, the espresso drink has provided many with the extra energy they may need. The goat herder noticed the goats acting like they had an extreme boost of energy. As he searched for his heard, he noticed they were snacking on a red berry growing from shrubs. Curious, he ate a berry and felt as if he had suddenly gained more energy as a result. At the same time, a tired, hungry traveler witnesses the occurrences and jumped at the chance to try it for himself. Having the same reactions as the herder and goats, he knew that they were on to something. He took some berries and began to add them to drinks for those in his hometown, as the drink seemed to be a good source of energy. The idea took off from there!

The first espresso maker is said to have originated in Italy in 1901, by Italian manufacturing company owner, Lugia Bezzer. He was simply looking for a way to help speed up his employee’s coffee breaks. He figured out that if pressure was applied in the brewing process, the drink could be made in a lot less time. Nicknamed “The fast coffee machine”, the espresso machine patent was sold in 1905. The new owner, Desidero Pavoni developed an espresso machine that used a piston pump to force water through a tube and into the coffee.

Modifications on the espresso machine were halted by the onset of WWII. Production picked up after the war and in 1946, the commercial espresso machine was invented. Since that time, the espresso maker has been produced by many name brand companies, including: Juda, Mr.Coffee, Kitchenaid and Braun. Offering various features, styles, colors and prices, the espresso machine has come a long way!

Zach Smith asked:

There is but one coffee bean product but many ways of roasting it and brewing it. There is dark brewed java, espresso, cappuccino and latte. If you are a fan of latte, read on to find out which coffee machine can effectively make the cup of latte you want.

Let me tell you more about the brands that have piqued the attention of many java enthusiasts. The following have been considered as the best:

Back to Basics CM300BR Cocoa-Latte Chrome 32-Ounce Hot-Drink Maker
This is a good coffee machine for parties as it makes large batches of this beverage at a time. It has a 32 ounce container.

Many consumers found this ideal because it retails for just under $30. In addition to that, it brews flavourful latte and other beverages such as cocoa. Also, its 600 watt power allows it to brew in no time at all.

Krups FNC2 Novo 3000 Espresso/Cappuccino/Latte Maker
This one from Krups is a bit expensive and will cost you more than $150 but it can make 3 beverages efficiently. It uses two coffee filters and can brew either ground or pod coffee. Consumers like it because it makes just the right creamy texture of froth which is what you will look for in lattes.

It has a removable water tank so you can easily fill it up or easily clean it. Also, its functions enables little cleaning time as it has a no-drip and no-mess feature.

Capresso 303.01 4-Cup Espresso and Cappuccino Machine
You can also make your favourite cup of latte with this brewer. It is a cheaper choice than Krups. It uses 800 watts of power so you can really say that it brews fast.

It has a steam selector coupled with a swivel frother so you can really tweak it to achieve the froth you want in your beverage. The carafe is dishwasher safe so that is one less work for you. On top of all these, Capresso ensured your safety in using it by incorporating a safety boiler cap and a protective thumb guard that cannot be seen in other brewers.

DeLonghi BAR32 Retro Pump-Driven 35 ounce Espresso Maker
Whether it is espresso or latte, this machine can do it all. You can brew using your favourite coffee pod. It has been integrated with an ESE filter that makes it easier to brew espresso or latte. It also ensures you will get a frothy crema.

Try these coffee machines and taste the huge difference.

Greg K. Hansward asked:

A great espresso is not something that is just made. It is created. Many professionals have their own methods of making the best espresso. You can develop your own, but nothing is a substitute for knowing the basics of a good cup of espresso. By knowing the proper elements and some useful tips you can design your own process and ensure it will be a winning one that will have people racing to get a cup. Here are the elements of what makes a great espresso.

Good Water

A good espresso starts with good water. It should be of good quality, pure and filtered. It needs to be fresh and very hot. The best temperature is at around 203 degrees Fahrenheit. Using stale or old water can produce an off taste to the espresso. This is a factor that many people overlook. They believe that through heating the water will lose any odd flavor, but this is not true. Good water is a must to get a good cup of finished product.

Good Coffee

Next, you want good quality coffee. The espresso is strong, so you want a string coffee bean. It should be fresh as well. It should be finely ground and dark. Choose your beans wisely. Just as bad water can make its mark, bad coffee beans will ruin the whole cup. You want to choose a dark bean that is not too old. Fresh is key when it comes to a good taste. Check the look and smell of beans, too. Make sure you know how to spot a bad bean from a good bean, so you make the right choice.

Good Machine

The last element in a good espresso is a good machine. It should be of a good quality, functioning properly. It should be clean and be able to produce water that is hot enough. It needs to have a steady drip and use a heating process other than steam which can really water down the taste of the coffee. one cup coffee machines are also available.

These elements are all essential to making a good cup of espresso. The process, though, also plays an important role. Here is some great tips for how to make the best cup of espresso:

-	Pre warm the machine. Run water through machine once and discard.
-	Pack grounds slightly when adding to machine.
-	Use a warmed cup.

If you start with good supplies and use a few tricks of the trade, you can create an espresso that will knock their socks off. For the serious enthusiast practice makes perfect. You can often do research into the methods of making good cups of coffee and get ideas from the professionals that you can use to create the perfect cup of espresso.

Steve Turley asked:

DeLonghi espresso coffee makers are a new addition to the coffee equipment market, having produced their first machine, the Magnifica, in 2004. However, the company has actually been around for over 100 years; it was founded in 1902 in Treviso, Italy. Before expanding into manufacturing coffee appliances, DeLonghi was known for its home appliances, like portable air conditioning units and space heaters. In 1990, DeLonghi started manufacturing kitchen appliances for sale in the United States. Now, DeLonghi produces some of the world’s more desirable espresso and coffee makers.

DeLonghi makes traditional drip coffee makers for those wanting a basic machine, but if you enjoy multi-functional kitchen gadgets, you will love DeLonghi espresso coffee makers. These combination models, most of which feature digital displays, can brew a cup of espresso and a pot of coffee simultaneously.

The DeLonghi Gran Dama Super Automatic espresso machine is a top-of-the-line machine, complete with a large amount of “bells and whistles” sure to impress even the most sophisticated coffee connoisseur. This versatile machine does not limit itself to making only espresso; it will also easily create Italian macchiatos, lattes, and cappuccinos. Some of the many features that accessorize the DeLonghi Gran Dama are built-in chambers that house milk for frothing and steaming as well as a conical burr grinder for grinding beans immediately before brewing, an automatic cleaning mechanism that operates with the touch of a button, a digital display, and one-touch beverage brewing. Though the DeLonghi Gran Dama is a highly functional machine, its special features come at a price; this model is currently priced at over $2000.

The DeLonghi Magnifica espresso machine is a stylish machine with many of the Gran Dama’s special features, but it is much more affordable. The Magnifica includes a conical burr grinder so a separate machine is not needed for coffee bean grinding, as well as a milk frothing mechanism. The Magnifica’s digital display is easy to use and can be programmed to automatically shut off after a certain period of time.

DeLonghi espresso machines are available for purchase online at DeLonghi’s appliance website.
